19th ANNUAL CALAIS CONCERT
" Songs of Salty Seas, Romance & Revolution"
FEATURING ANNA and ELIZABETH
SUNDAY, JULY 23, 2017 at 4:00pm
The collaboration between Anna Roberts-Gevalt and Elizabeth LaPrelle spans worlds — between their homes in Brooklyn and rural Virginia -- between deep study of mountain ballads with old masters and explorations into the avant garde — between music, performance, and visual art.
Six years deep into their work together, they have spent the past year visiting traditional music archives in their home states of Vermont and Virginia, working that raw material at residencies, and are in the midst of a new cycle of work together, including a third studio album; a multimedia stage show incorporating movement, illustration, storytelling and music; a pair of dance films; and a series of quilted illustrations called “crankies."
Singer Deb Flanders, multi-instrumentalist folk musician Pete Sutherland, fiddler Oliver Scanlon, cellist John Dunlop and violinist Laura Markowitz will join them in a memorable afternoon of music making.
Concert held at the Old West Church in Calais, VT. General Admission at the door: $15- a portion of the proceeds benefit the Vermont Folklife Center.
