Institute for Cultural Research
A traveling exhibit of traditional textiles depicting war and violent political conflict. Featuring materials from Central Asia, Southeast Asia, South America and South Africa.
The Vermont Folklife Center was the inaugural site for the 2005-2007 tour. The exhibit is produced by City Lore, the Vermont Folklife Center and Michigan Traditional Arts Program/Michigan State University Museum. Major funding for the project was provided by the Rockefeller Foundation, the Coby Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
A four-color catalogue, editied by Ariel Zeitlin Cooke and Marsha MacDowell and featuring essays by folklorists and other scholars and a series of artist profiles, accompanies the exhibit.
