Sterling Weed

Legendary big band leader Sterling Weed, of St. Albans, Vermont, is still performing at 102. At age ten, Mr. Weed started performing with his family orchestra. By his early 20s, he and his brothers were a crowd-drawing dance band playing in Vermont, New York and Canada and performing under the name, Weed’s Imperial Orchestra.

Sterling Weed is featured in Visit’n 8, “Big Band Sound in Small Town Vermont: Sterling Weed’s Imperial Orchestra,” published by the Vermont Folklife Center.

Hear Mr. Weed talk about the transformation of his family orchestra into Weed’s Imperial Orchestra.
