    Title:

    Getting the Word(s) Out: Creative Ways to Share Your Interviews with a Larger Audience
    Description: Many organizations have collections of oral history recordings that don’t get much use. This seminar explores the challenges of, and opportunities for, presenting audio excerpts from oral history and ethnographic research materials in exhibits, Web sites, multimedia presentations, podcasts, and as audio CDs.

    Title:

    Digital Audio Recording for Ethnography and Oral History
    Description:

    Audio recorded interviews are at the heart of ethnographic and oral history work. In this class we will cover the ins and outs of recording interviews–from microphone placement to setting up and configuring file-based digital recording equipment and uploading audio files to a computer.

    Title:

    Preserving Digital Media Files: Managing Digital Audio, Images and Video for the Future
    Description:Whether you're taking digital photographs, shooting digital video, or recording audio digitally, preserving these materials over the long term can be a challenge. This class will survey best practices for the digital preservation of multimedia files.

    Title:

    Oral History Basics: Defining, Designing and Executing Oral History Projects
    Description: Whether your intention is to record the memories of the oldest members of your community, document some aspect of your community’s history, or explore the lifeways of a bygone era, this class will help you think through project planning--from choosing a focus to preparing for interviews and conceiving a final product.

    Title:

    Documenting Your Community as an Insider: Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary
    Description:

    The ethnographic process of interviewing and deep listening offers a powerful model for engaging with and learning from our communities. In this class we outline a method for drawing out the keepers of community knowledge and capturing the important stories of everyday life, founded on the premise that there is no ordinary place.
    Of special interest to educators who are framing projects around civic engagement and place-based education.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Cancellations received more than 24 hours prior to the beginning of the workshop will be honored with a full refund. Participants failing to cancel their registration more than 24 hours prior to the beginning of the workshop will be charged the full registration fee.
